Graham Whiteside was born into his healthcare and education career. His father, Frank Whiteside, was a British Royal Army Medical Corps, State Registered Nurse that used to practice his medical talks & demonstration for troops with Graham as his audience. He would assist his father when he provided medical cover at rodeos & gymkhana’s and trusted his father to set him on fire for a simulated Military Field Kitchen Explosion in 1985. Graham went on to train and work for 15 years, as a General & Cardiothoracic ICU and Psychiatric Nurse. In 2000, Graham earned his Bachelors Degree in Nursing Science with First Class Honors at the University of Northumbria at Newcastle-Upon-Tyne and subsequently pivoted in 2001 into medical device sales.
In 2006, Graham’s fascination with education led him to a healthcare simulation company, Limbs & Things, which brought him to the United States in 2008. Since then, he has enjoyed leadership roles with companies that have enabled him to support special interest groups aimed at improving education, clinical practice and patient safety, including Limbs & Things, B-Line Medical, SIMnext, the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, SimGHOSTS, the American College of Surgeons, and the Global Network for Simulation in Healthcare. Culminating in him contributing work to three medical simulation-related textbooks.
In 2015, Graham’s desire to support improvements in health care education led him to partner with Gubener Plastinate, the creator of real human specimens preserved through plastination. In 2018, the relationship was formalized with the establishment of Anatomic Excellence, which serves as the exclusive full range agent for the acquisition of von Hagens Plastination specimens in the US, Canada and the Caribbean.
